Every single day people search Google to find
the products and services you offer. But if your site isn’t on

So what does this data tell you? It tells you
the most popular searches on Google that include the term cat.
Right at the top is the single word cat and cats. Millions of
searches and so competitive it would be virtually impossible to
rank on the first page of Google. The other thing that is crucial
to your online success is this term does not tell you what the
person wants.
So you need to go deeper into what people type
in toe find the terms real potential customers are using. The more
specific you go the lower the competition which means your ability
to get on page on Google is dramatically improved and the time to
achieve it is greatly reduced.
As an example let’s say we sell cat food
online. Here are the more specific searches for that market.
Now that is a lot of potential sales because
once your start marketing your site you can rank on page one of
Google for many different (but related) terms. Can you imagine how
profitable this could be in your market? I hope so.
Now the next step. Pick a search term that is
popular enough to be worthwhile and let’s check out the
competition to see if you can beat them. I’m going to choose
organic cat food which is typed in 2,400 times a month as my
starting point.
What you need to know is how strong the top few
sites are. This is judged by a combination of things,
particularly:
- Is
the site an authority site? An example of a general authority
site is Wikipedia. However in each market there will also be
specific authority sites that you need to discover. If there are
lots of authority sites on page one then it will take longer and
require more work to get on page one.
- Does
the site have a high Google PageRank. People get to hung up on
Google PageRank but it does provide a measure of the quality of
the web page according to Google. If all the sites are high
Pagerank then it will take longer and require more work to get
on page one.
- How
many links are there pointing to the site and the particular
page on Google’s first page. Lots of links is an indication of a
popular or well marketed site. If all the sites have lots of
incoming links then it will take longer and require more work to
get on page one.
- Link
quality. A link from a high quality site in your niche is
generally the best link you can get. Links form general
authority sites are also good. The more links a site has from
what are known as ‘trusted sites’ the more secure their high
Google ranking.
- Next
is what is called ‘anchor text’. Anchor text is the words that
display in the link you click here’s an example

you have the right amount of links with the right anchor text
then your rank can soar very quickly.
- Your
on page factors. On page factors are the text that appears on
your actual website. For example is your most important keyword
phrase in the Title of your site and your most important
heading? On page factors are important to get right but with
Google it’s really all about the links. If you combine both then
your site has real marketing strength.
Now that you have checked out the competition
and determined they can be beaten you need to get to work.
Step 1 is to modify your on page factors.
Basically all you need to do is make sure the main keyword is your
page title, a heading and used several times throughout the words
on the page.
Step 2 is to get links. There are tons of
methods to do this and I cannot explain them in detail here.

- Look
at who links to your competition and see if you can get a link
to your site on those same sites.

Write and distribute articles online.

short videos and distribute them on YouTube and other websites.
